In an effort to encourage students from the Shaw area to attend college, Shaw Community Ministry awards scholarships to a select number of students each year. Students apply for the awards and the recipients are honored at a special banquet. Recent scholarship winners are now studying at Virginia Union, Virginia Polytechnic, Trinity Washington University, University of Wisconsin, Northern Michigan University, University of Maryland, George Mason University, Penn State, Lafayette College, Pepperdine University, Montgomery College, and Towson University.
This year, SCM is pleased to award ten $1000 scholarships to high school seniors. SCM hopes to award at least seven $1000 scholarships to past winners. Money for scholarships is entirely reliant on private donations. Our annual scholarship awards banquet is June 14, at Twelfth Street Christian Church at 1812 12th Street, NW, starting at 6pm.
