Shaw Community Ministry is in partnership with several organizations engaged in youth and family development practices. Rev. Robbie R. Morganfield is the executive minister/director of Shaw Community Ministry.

Morganfield came to Washington in fall 2007 from Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as associate pastor for young people’s ministries at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church. He also was executive director of the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University, which trained mid-career individuals for jobs as daily newspaper journalists and provided continuing education to journalists and journalism educators.

Prior to his work in Nashville, Morganfield worked as a reporter, editor and university journalism professor in various states. He also had served as an assistant pastor and itinerant preacher.

Morganfield is a native Mississippian, who holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi, a master’s degree in journalism and educational policy and leadership from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Texas Christian University. He currently is a Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland where he is specializing in race, religion and media.

An ordained minister since 1993, he is an avid music lover, an active sportsman and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the National Association of Black Journalists.
